We spent a month at Marina Real. We left the marina on Thursday October 1st and once outside the bay waffled on the decision to head 10 nm north to an anchorage we have been before San Pedro or cross the sea to Santa Rosalia. ... When we heard that Olaf was going to follow the path of Jimena we decided to head to Santa Rosalia marina first thing Saturday morning to ensure we had a secure anchorage. ... As it turned out Olaf went ashore near Cabo San Lucas crossing to La Paz so had minimal effect on us.We spent a month at Marina Real. Hi All, We are back in Santa Rosalia doing our last provisioning in a town that has numerous grocery stores where we can get a good supply of food items. ... Hola! We had a wonderful trip back to the states getting to see and talk to many of you plus spending lots of time with family. Today we decided to cross the channel to Santa Rosalia to go into the marina fully recharge the batteries, wash down the boat, find and repair the tiny leak(s) on the underside of the dinghy, and other projects before re-provisioning and heading back out for more adventure. ... we just got back from walking into Santa Rosalia where we had a bacon wrapped hot dog and Thrifty ice cream – we were in heaven…. ...

The well-protected harbor of Santa Rosalia is the site of the most Northerly of the Fonatur built dock systems that make up the Escalera Nautica (Nautical Ladder). ... Most visitors find Santa Rosalia to be one of the most charming towns on the peninsula; It grew around a French-operated copper mine that is now producing again and the wooden houses and town buildings are more typical of the Bahamas than Baja. ... La Iglesia Santa Barbara, a church constructed of pre-fabricated steel plates and designed by Gustav Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower fame) in the late 1800s, is probably one of a kind; It was built and displayed at an exposition in Paris and somehow ended up at Santa Rosalia! May 10 was a good day to arrive as it was "Dia de las Madres" (Mother's Day) in Mexico and is publicly celebrated with gusto (no mandatory Sunday Brunch here). ...

The early start had three main purposes: 1) Easily clear the tide rips at the south end of the bay 2) Pass the part of the coast with strong West winds in daylight, when the winds are generally less 3) Arrive in Santa Rosalia in daylight We are glad to report we easily reached all three of our goals, which made the early a. ... we tried to arrive in Santa Rosalia with fish to share, but no such luck. ...
