Bec's Adventure 2010

May 20, 2010 - Jaipur

In our bus ride this morning we saw giant mounds of manure that the rural people use for fuel, the pollution they make and the smell are terrible. We had to stop the bus at one point to let a herd of camels cruise across the highway!!! On the way to Jaipur we stopped at a 1000 year old water storage/ well which had thousands of steps leadingdown to the water, it made you dizzy to look at it! Abhaneri is an ancient village set in the desert of Rajasthan, known for its beautiful baoris (step wells) and the famous Harshat Mata temple where we were mobbed by little school kids :) We were given little bindi stickers for our foreheads because the women here wear them as part of their makeup, so I will have it on my head in some if my photos! We finally got to the city and drove between incredible old walls where the royalty used to enter the city like when Aladdin comes in on his elephant! We went to the City Palace and saw a snake charmer fluting to make his cobras rise out of the basket which freaked out Hannah who has a massive snake phobia! I got an artist to show me how he mixes colours with semi-precious stones for his paintings which was pretty amazing because the colours are so strong and gorgeous. ...
