Aug 25, 2010 - Paris
We started our Europe tour by crossing the English Channel at Dover and then driving for a few hours through the French countryside. After this we had a night time bus tour around Paris. ... I was really impressed with the architecture but got sick of being pushed in front of everytime we lined up for something!! We ended our Paris experience with a picnic on the Champs de Mars, near the Eiffel tower and then a cabaret show with the people on our tour. ...

Paris Day 1 14/08/2010 Arrived in Paris late morning & were absolutely bamboozeled trying to work out how to get tickets for the metro, where to go on the metro & how to get money (from an aTM) just so we could go to the toilet. ... In the short period of time we had we managed to visit the Mona Lisa & a few other famous peices of art, and enjoyed just looking at the Dome over the entrance to the Louvre (which definitely wasn’t there last time Jenny & I were in Paris 25 yrs ago). ... On our way home on a bus we decided to venture up to Montparnasse where we made the steep decent up to the Sacre de Couer & enjoyed the beautiful view of Paris from this high area. ... We then enjoyed strolling thru the narrow busy streets in Montparnasse where we had dinner which was most enjoyable before stumbling upon the sex shops and the Moulin Rouge in the area around Place de Clichy Day 2 15/08/2010 After a late sleep in we started the day with chocolate croissants (yummy – again reminded me of my last visit to Paris) in our local patisserie across the street, before braving the rain and venturing off to visit the sights of Paris. ... With the promise of fine skies we went on a cruise down the Seine river which was oh so romantic!!! Last visit was to the Arc de Triomphe to encounter yet more stairs & view the busiest roundabout in Paris. ...

Today I will be heading off on the Eurostar to Paris, and then an overnight train to Verona. ... I could eat their food (served like in the airplane, but much better quality, and with real crystal and china) and drink champagne, all the way to Paris! But leaving the station, I was also thinking about Don Jackson’s 90th birthday party, which will be taking place today in Vancouver (Surrey). ... Wish I could be there as well! My last day in Paris was a microcosm of my whole trip: it had ups and downs but was wonderful nonetheless. ... After my last shopping excursion, I came back to the university and had my last Parisan meal - crepes at a cafe just down the street from my building. ... After the too-crowded train went by, I walked back out to the street and made the five minute walk to the next station, which I like better and had been planning on using anyway; fortunately it wasn't raining so hard and I didn't wait long for a train. ...

I walked most of the main strip again as well as two of the surrounding streets, Georges V and Montaigne, which, along with CE make up the golden triangle of Paris shopping. ...
