At last we arrived in Jinghong, the capital of the Xishuangbanna region of southern Yunnan province. ... She had arrived in Jinghong in 1999 after travelling overland from Laos on equally terrible roads. ... Jinghong itself is a quiet town with palm-lined streets and not a whole lot to do except chill out and relax after the hectic rush of other parts of China. ... They decided to visit a couple of the small towns outside of Jinghong, but we just stayed and walked, relaxed and ate to our hearts content. ...

Feb 24, 2006 - Busing in Xīshuāngbănnà

Jinghong, China As public buses in China are quite a unique experience, we thought that maybe we'd present a glimpse. ... Its quite fun! Enough about the buses! We made it to Jinghong, where we caught our first glimpse of the mighty Mekong. ... Another bus ride (thankfully the last in China!) had us to the Lao border where new adventures await! After nine days here are the numbers:

Anna reporting: Writing this entry it seems much longer than 12 hours ago that we were traipsing the blissfully empty sleeps of Lijiang headed for the 8am express bus to New Dali. We arrived in Jinghong ahead of schedule and jumped on a bus to the town centre. ...
