Du Fu's Cottage Ten minutes walk from home - but we've never been. Friends from near and far The first 2 weeks in December saw the arrival in Chengdu of Andreus and Annett from Hamburg - and Wanxiang from Beijing - all old friends of Dawei's. ... Dec 3, 2009 - In Chengdu...with a hot pot

Two parts to this entry Part 1 - on the train Sadly I am leaving the Guangxi region of china today. So now I'm entering the second half of my travels but first need to get the overnight train to Chengdu out of the way. ... Part II So I've arrived in Chengdu but first had to suffer through 24 hours of train travel. ... The travel agents lied about it being shorter! Mon 30 Nov 2009 CHENGDU Chengdu located in southwest China is the capital of Sichuan province and is also one of the most important economic centres, transportation and communication hubs in Southwestern China. ... Chengdu is the capital of "Heavenly State" (Tian Fu Zhi Guo), habitat of giant pandas and city of cotton-rose hibiscus. ... We took an interesting walk though Leshan's market - which wsa closing for the day - and that was that! A long drive back to Chengdu! However there was some "free" time to visit Tianfu Square - the "Peoples Square" in the centre of the city itself. ... Chengdu is called the Giant Panda's "hometown" because of the Panda Breeding base. ... No wonder they are so content! But then again, all they eat is bamboo and I didn't see any dipping sauce! Later we visited Wangjianglou Park located in Chengdu - a luxuriant forest and bamboo grooves along the bank of Jinjiang River outside the city's eastern gate. ...

Weekends in China I was out unusually early this last Saturday and have to report that Saturdays seem like any other day here in Chengdu. ... Chengdu is very proud of Jinsha - and a similar (I think even more impressive) Shu discovery at Sanxingdui (2 hours from here). ... Snack Alley is the highlight - with 20 or so little stalls all selling Chengdu little eats - my eyes do the eating as much as my tummy. ...

It's 8:00 a. and I'm in the dining car on the China Tibet train, travelling from Lhasa in Tibet to Chengdu in China. ... Nov 9, 2009 - Dayi Mountain - China extreme

Kate writes about our trip to Dayi Golden Mountain Resort back in October (BB - before Blog). I will write more about this and get some pictures - but the male minggong are many here in Chengdu - easy to spot with their plimsolls, small stature, hard hats worn day and night, and liking for lounge suit jackets. ...
