Mehow (sounds like me-ow) to Shanghai, Welcome to Shanghai Day 1,2,& 3. ... Really, our 2 days of Shanghai (& 3 nights) should have been broken up to 4 nights and 5 days, even if we had to omit a port of call. ... Journal entry & photos are exciting as the Shanghai experience was. ... Day 2 of our Shanghai experience started in the early morning hours of 07:00 for room service breakfast to sleepy eyed travelers (some travelers stayed in bed until 08:00) for our early morning readiness (by 11 am) for : SHOPPING! Ellie & Debbie (more Debbie than Ellie) had the unsatiated desire to shop, shop, shop. ... I knew both of them wanted to shop but neither were ready for the onslaught of vendors & hawkers that we had experienced on our previous visit to Shanghai. ...

Woensdag met de snelle trein in 6,5 naar Shanghai! Ronald is best wel zenuwachtig om na 5,5 jaar weer terug te komen in deze stad! Eenmaal aangekomen springen we de metro in en vinden een mooi hostel. ... Met jawel, een westers ontbijt ;-) Donderdagochtend, na een westers ontbijt, Shanghai ontdekken! In een korte tijd zien we al veel: Winkels, warenhuizen, the bund, sightseeing tunnel, hele hoge gebouwen, en Pudong (bekende financiele district). ... Ook het ocean aquarium gezien, heel indrukwekkend, heel veel rare vissen en ook hele lelijke! Zie foto :-) Vrijdag naar Old Shanghai, hele oude gebouwen met moderne winkels erin, dat ziet er toch wel apart uit; een Mac Donalds in een voormalige tempel! Daarna naar een fake markt geweest met een oud collega van Ronald. ... Dit gebouw is pas een jaar klaar en een paar meter ernaast ligt een bouwput waar een nog veel hoger gebouw komt! 's Avonds gaan we wat drinken (bier) in Amerikaanse kroegen, bier was duur maar het goede bandje maakte veel goed! Zondag door de 'French concession' gelopen, een gebied met veel winkels (nog nooit zoveel winkels gezien als in Shanghai!), kleine straatjes met Europese bouwstijl. ... Maandag, vandaag is ons plan een van de dorpjes buiten Shanghai te bezoeken, maar dit gaat niet zoals verwacht. ...

However, being a Saturday and being that nothing ever goes to plan, the travel agency closest to us was closed! Our hostel is a bit away from the nearest Metro stop, so we continued walking for about 40 minutes or so before we hit the main road and jumped on the train to visit the Bund – Shanghai’s riverside walkway. ... Shanghai is hosting the World Expo in 2010 and it appears much of the city is half completed in readiness for the event. ... I had tickets for the singles semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters tournament and we were both looking forward to it. ... (I just typed in lots here, but unless I pressed a wrong button, I think "someone" didn't like what I wrote, and they've just gone and deleted it) No joke! Let's see - went to get a view from north of the Bund, ended up in a section that people aren't allowed so I couldn't get a view of the water, there was an embassy with lots of cordons, got a view from the bridge but cloudy and hazy today so not great.(I just typed in lots here, but unless I pressed a wrong button, I think "someone" didn't like what I wrote, and they've just gone and deleted it) No joke!
