Wow, time flew by this week! Aside from all the shopping for pearls and such, the most important event of the week was the issue of the visa and the swearing in ceremony at the American Embassy. Olivia was really excited about being on a boat, but when the crew rehearsed their safety procedures, she was quite worried about how Allegra would manage to put her life vest on if the boat sank! Guangzhou is quite a bustling city, as we witnessed by walking around its many streets filled with vendors that hawked their wares, anything from "priceless antiques" to tiger paws (quite illegal, we hear), and foodstuff we never even thought existed. ... We had lunch at a huge restaurant where we hoped to get some dim sum.Wow, time flew by this week! What a long, long day Friday was! After some further document action, we were off to the airport around 3:00 pm, but it was 1:00 in the morning before we finally checked in to our hotel in Guangzhou (Canton). ... These shops cater to the clientele that stays at this particular hotel, that is, the adoptive parents who come to Guangzhou to have the American Embassy process the visas and passports necessary to take the children back to the US. ... We later learned that since Guangzhou will host the Asian Games in 2010, the entire city is undergoing a renovation. ... your typical Saturday morning in Guangzhou? During the trip we drove through Guangzhou, which is one of the major metropolises in China, and it is impossibly huge and incomprehendible. ...
