Onwards then to Beijing. ... After Beijing we headed down the coast past Shanghai and into Hong Kong. ... Even though Hong Kong is sort of technically part of China – but not, compared to places like Beijing it feels like what Hawaii is to New York or Washington. ... Somehow more of a culture shock than people crapping in the street in parts of Beijing. ... Even in the cities but especially in the countryside, no one understands any English at all, nothing is in English (public transport etc) no restaurants have English menus and this included lots of Beijing (apart from the really touristy areas around the Forbidden City) getting a bus is a nightmare because everything is in Chinese and you literally have to guess what bus you want etc. ...

Aug 1, 2010 - Last Day in China!
Finally some time to finish my China blog! And good thing too, since I leave for Japan on Friday!, and I'll need to get started on that. A final note: See the Windows error message (in Chinese) that was showing at a Forbidden City museum where it was supposed to be interactive media? Yeesh!, how EMBARRASSING!! Luckily, on my tourist day, nobody knew where I worked!! ;) Oh, and at the real Chinese restaurant where we ate Friday night before seeing the Beijing acrobats, the toilets were holes in the floor! (No pic attached. ... ) Too bad I couldn't get pix of the acrobats, they were amazing.Finally some time to finish my China blog! And good thing too, since I leave for Japan on Friday!, and I'll need to get started on that. Waiting at the Beijing Capital airport for my flight home. ... Made my 3rd trip to the gym downstairs (like I said, I'm tryin') and then spent the day travelling by taxi to 3 different MSFT Beijing offices for meetings. ... I was quite proud of myself that by the end of the week, I can navigate to 3 different places by taxi.Waiting at the Beijing Capital airport for my flight home. ... Today, we attended the Opening Ceremony for the National Camp held at the Great Hall of the People. Although a little uncertain at first, our students quickly learned to be comfortable with the media and chanted "Beijing, Ni Hao!" while jumping and raising their hands up in the air. ... What an exciting day! I'll have to be brief writing it up tho because jet lag has caught up to me and I am about to pass out. with Grand Hyatt Beijing breakfast buffet. ... (I know my coach Sabina will be happy to hear that!) I'd have run longer but my boss, who is living in Beijing this summer for 6 weeks, invited me to dinner with her & her family, here at the hotel. ... We had Peking Duck (in Peking!), sesame beans, more dumplings, noodles, sea bass (still with its head on it!), and duck soup.What an exciting day!
