The complex is situated beside Lawn Hill Creek and is well organised with shared amenities and a good restaurant serving meals all day. ... August 22nd Exerted some energy on the jumping pillow before confining ourselves to the car for 500km in a south west direction. Stopped at Lake Maraboon, just south of Emerald. ... I went into Emerald to prepare the pantry and fridge for the next week without the ability to restock and with our limited fridge space. ... August 20th Re-traced our path back up to Townsville to catch up with a friends of ours whom we hadn't seen for over 10 years. ... We arrived in Winton after an easy trip of 179 km, through flat endless plains with very few trees and only the occasional glimpse of a cattle station far off in the distance. ... Longreach is the home of the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, the Quantas Founders Museum and several other attractions for tourists to visit but we chose to visit the Longreach School of the Air. ... After lunch we decided to do a little 4wheel driving over the dirt roads around Longreach. ... We then carried on with our journey through very flat, endless grassy plains and finally reached Longreach, for a two night stay. ... The temperature by this time had reached 34 degrees and 37 degrees the next day – so it was quite a shock to the system! We saw many road trains carrying cattle along this highway, most of them it seemed began or ended in Longreach. ...
