Feb 23, 2010 - Sydney

So, we arrived at last into the much awaited port of Sydney - yippee! I had been up all night with in-patients, so unfortunately couldn't go up on deck to watch us sail in. ... however, it was only just starting to get light when we sailed in, so I consoled myself with thinking that maybe I didn't miss so much! I actually had 3 in-patients that night, one of whom had never been to Sydney, so she helped me move her lines, while I moved the bed sideways, so that she could see out of the porthole to watch us sail in - it cheered her up a little bit I think. ... So, I finished handing over and went to bed for a couple of hours - think I only managed a bit of sleep though because I was so excited! So, I went ashore to meet my friend Kylie (my friend from the Star Princess, she was the Personnel Manager on board), and we sat in the Rocks for ages drinking coffee and chatting - in lovely sunshine! I had been a bit worried that Sydney was going to be 40 degrees or something crazy, so was very pleased to find that this was not the case! We wandered around the shops and galleries in the Rocks area, headed up to Dymocks book shop for a happy look around, and then to a bar/restaurant for lunch, which was nice. ... We had planned to go off and visit some family that evening, but that didn't work out for various reasons, so decided to go over to Manly on the ferry in search of some Chinese food! I love going on the ferries in Sydney harbour, the views are fabulous and they're also very quick. ... It was such a luxury to be having breakfast off the ship, it really felt like a little holiday! We did have the most amazing berth in Sydney - right in Circular Quay, and I think our Captain is right when he says it is far and away the best berth anywhere in the world - I believe many of the passengers had views from their balconies that could rival those of the suites of the most expensive Sydney hotels. ...

Feb 23, 2010 - We're outta here

We decided that we would spend a couple days in Wollongong just south of Sydney and then spend the last few days before we fly out on Thursday in the Sydney area. ... The girls and I ordered pizza, Sydney finally got her delivery, and we watched a couple of movies and went to bed. ... Sun Feb 21 Our final destination today was Wollongong where we were a couple of days ago but we detoured around through Sydney to go to the zoo. ... Sydney is not the easiest city to drive in but it was when we needed to turn right and realised that the line up for the right turn lane started way behind us. ... The zoo is on a point of land that juts out into Sydney Harbour. ...

Feb 22, 2010 - Dunedin - Tasmanian Sea

Saturday 20th February Day 42 Well overnight the captain did his job and safely transported us to our next destination, Dunedin. Unfortunately, because of the high winds, drying out-side has had to be stopped, as we do not want to lose our smalls in the Tasmanian Sea! Talk again soon after Sydney. ...

February 13, 2010 We got a nice early train back to the city today although on reaching the station we found there was a bus replacement service for part of the way due to track repairs. February 14, 2010 Our final day in Sydney and we decided to just have a walk around some of the gardens. ... Thankfully, we saved the best for the end and the time spent in Melbourne with friends was great fun, the diving likewise and even Sydney, which is an amazing and picturesque city, despite the annoying weather! For dinner we revisited the Thai restaurant we had gone to on our first night to have a special meal to celebrate Valentine’s Day. ... We started off with some lovely Thai fishcakes and spring rolls before sharing a green curry (not as good as the first time!) and finishing with some tasty desserts, washed down with a nice bottle of wine.February 13, 2010 We got a nice early train back to the city today although on reaching the station we found there was a bus replacement service for part of the way due to track repairs. Feb 10, 2010 - Sydney - Feb 5-10

The flight to Sydney was around 3 hours and with the time difference it was about 5pm when we landed. ... February 7, 2010 The rain was starting to ease a little finally but we still decided to stick to indoor activities just in case! We started off walking down to the Sydney Opera House and doing the tour there. ... I think I ate half of Donna’s steak as well as my own! After that we all headed to the Sydney Tower to get some twilight views over the city. ... At the very entrance I recognized my first thing from Sydney since the previous visit – the koala exhibit! Here there were 5 koalas just hanging around in the trees, happily dozing away. ... We’ve also found that just drinking regular iced water in restaurants saves you a packet – water is free, even soft drinks can be $4 each! February 10, 2010 We had one full day left in Sydney before we headed out to the Blue Mountains for a couple of nights. ...
