Today, we took a day trip out of Chengdu to see DaFo, the giant sitting buddha in the town of LeShan. It's 71m tall, and pretty impressive. However, the swarms of Chinese tourists and the long line that formed due to traffic jam on the narrow path you have to follow down to the buddha's feet made it less of an enjoyable outing. To pass the time in the line, we played round after round of '20 Questions" and "I Spy".
For lunch, we ate amazing dumplings... So yummy... And dinner was hot pot- Lydia and Tim's first in China. It was really good, and luckily our waitress spoke English really well. We drank peanut milk to help with the spiciness- the Sichuan way- and it worked really well... Unfortunately, later that night we all felt really really ill, and it's continued to today (the next day). Hopefully it'll be better by the time we get on the boat.
One final interesting bit of news: at our hostel, we met an American who was about to fly to Hong Kong. While climing up EmeiShan, he was bitten by a monkey on the calf and had to fly there to get rabies shots... It puts all the little bits of bad luck that seem inevitable when traveling into perspective!
